This is very rare to see paul butterfield in a dvd lasting an hour,I have went on you- tube to get a preview of this outstanding harp player and I was not disappointed with his performance five star.I have been a fan of his when he released his first album in 1967 called "Paul Butterfields Blues Band" featuring Mike Bloomfield on guitar. So when you order this dvd also purchase his first album and you will not be disappointed if your are a blues fan,he died in 1987 at the age of 44years just not long after appearing with BB. King.a big loss to blues fans.

4 out of 5 stars A rare gem   August 1, 2009

I was pleased to find this rarity and had to order it. Having owned a copy of his "In my own Dream" album for many years I'd never had a chance to see a performance, either live or on video. So, this was my chance. It's an excellent record of PB's young band and a great performance. The opening instrumental starts with the harmonica lost in the backing sound but my dismay cleared as the DVD progressed. Track 5 "New Walking Blues" shows why PB was rated as one of the best harp players of his time. Overall it's a great rare record of his contribution to the world of blues. The sound quality overall stops me giving it 5* but don't let this put you off. Let's hope Rockpalast come up with some more of these brilliant archives - BBC, hang your heads in shame, where are our own archives such as Rock Goes to College, In Concert, ????

3 out of 5 stars It's OK but...   September 4, 2010
Mr. Anthony Buckley (Leigh-on-Sea, UK)
The good news is that it is Paul Butterfield - there is hardly anything of him on film, so this is welcome. The bad news is that the sound quality is variable - his harp is totally drowned out for the first two numbers. Then there is the audience. They are pretty well all male and not particularly enthusiastic, you get the impression from them that Butterfield was a support act for some heavy metal band. The blues numbers the band does are OK but the others are fairly uninspired. Finally, there is the interview at the end. The interviewer asks the band in English, then does a piece to camera and interprets what he has just said in German. The band answers in English, the interviewer then interprets what they have to say in German - and so it goes on.

It seems to me that post production is sloppy here, if they had bothered, they could have sorted out the sound problems I have mentioned. They could also have cut out all of the German speaking bits for the English speaking audience. I gave it 3 stars, but infact it's only worth 2.5
