5 out of 5 stars Being an Idiot is the best way to Keep d Blues   February 6, 2009

There is so much sophistication in the world today, the media, the streets, the mirrors. We aim for simplicity. Everyone is able to get to know almost anybody and the transition of emotions, the crossover of them, is laid upon the crossroads of life magnificently written, explained and simplified here in the Blues book for Dummies. We are glad we bought it since it keeps a special place at our book shelves. The one-note blues theory of B.B., arpeggios, pentatonics, the scales of minor and major, they are all pure and obvious in this wonderful book. Worth the money, time and since it is yellow covered, ones read, it is impossible to forget. Thank you, the writers and Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Blues guitar for real dummies   March 2, 2010
Welsh Kev (South Wales)
Easy to understand - even for me, with lots of good practical advice and ideas.
The accompanying CD is ideal as it ives you something to play to and shows you how the licks should sound

5 out of 5 stars Worth getting   December 1, 2009
D. Walker (UK)
The text is in a zany American style, with some genuinely funny cartoons intersperced. This can help keep this fresh, and if you can adjust to the style it relives the fatigue that can come with taking in lots of info.
As to content I'd say it is more for the beginner than experienced player. For example the Piano book in the same series conveys more theory/playing teaching. However there is a lot of background info on guitars/equipment. You'd also gain a grounding in the Blues greats and lots of useful anacdotes for musos to pepper the conversation at a jam session!! Overall at less than £10 it is worth getting, entertaining and the humourous style does the wonderful trick of letting you learn without it seeming to be hard work.

4 out of 5 stars Not really for dummies ...   March 17, 2009

For your money this book gives you almost 400 pages (plus CD) of extremely detailed blues guitar instruction. Don't be misled by the title - this is not for dummies; this is a serious, at times challenging, course of instruction which packs far more information than any other guitar tutor that I know of. I imagine some of it might get pretty daunting for a complete beginner; I think this book is best suited for someone with basic knowledge or someone studying guitar with a teacher.
It's a pity that the "Dummies" series all follow the same, old-fashioned format; visually the book is not too exciting and the 360 pages make it impractical and difficult to keep open while actually playing the guitar.
But having said that, I think that in terms of real, practical blues instruction, this book is probably in a class of its own.
