Thanks again Amazon recommendations! June 30, 2009 David P (UK) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
Never heard of her before, I bought this after it popped up on my recommended list. I was not disappointed. This young lady has a unique, beautifully husky voice, she was clearly born to sing the blues. All the tracks on here are very good, but for me track 5 "Time has come" is just sublime - mournful blues in that lovely husky voice, and then a 3 minute blistering guitar sequence - just superb, a real belter. Not only can she sing but wow, can she play! I would love to see her live. If you like BB King, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore etc. then you will love this, she really stands out. A rising star.

I know my blues guitarists and this girl is unbelievable quite frankly. Not quite in the top league, but blimey she's close! Lets put Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Walter Trout, Johnny Winter fighting it out for the league championship but here we have a new player who plays the blues brilliantly. If anyone deserves to hit the big time and get into the big four its her! Already fighting and keeping her place in easily in the top 10, i believe her to be the most exciting new talent for years and years. Love blues? love smokin blues guitar and a voice that totally knocks you for six- don't be fooled by appearances - she does not sound like a 23 year old but sings with a maturity and resonance that has to be heard to be believed. If you love the blues buy this album and if you are anything less than blown away i will eat yesterdays underwear!
Great voice , great guitar work May 12, 2009 A. J. Sudworth (UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This came up as recommendation for someone who had bought Joe Bonamassa albums - and I have to say that it was spot on
She has a great voice , a friend described it as 'smokey' and I'd compare it to Joss Stone on her 'Soul Sessions' album
..and then there is some outstanding guitar as well
Standout tracks are 'Time to Change' and 'Blackest Day' and the quality of the playing is great throughout
The blues purists might say a couple of tracks veer towards lighweight R&B but overall an excellent blues album and on the strength of it I bought tickets to see her as support for Johnny Winter in a couple of weeks - so I guess I was really impressed ..
Album of the year? February 4, 2009 J. Stewart (Edinburgh) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This an excellent album. Joanne has a great voice and her guitar work is clean and professional, a truly talented lady. The music is mostly laid back but up-tempo blues rock plus 1 or 2 slower numbers. Shades of John Mayer and SRV can be heard but the songs are all her and this is a refreshing and original album. Highly listenable and very very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to an opportunity to see Joanne perform live.
Joanne is yet another fine example of emerging British talent. Check out Backdoor Slam, Simon McBride, Oli Brown, Dani Wilde, Ben Poole. Fantastic stuff!
Wonderful March 15, 2009 Big Jim (London, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Only got this on the recommendation of that bastion of masculine rock "Classic Rock" magazine. The reviewer there expressed suitably ecstatic sentiments and I can only echo them and those of the previous reviewers.
When you consider the praise showered on the likes of Duffy, Amy Winehouse and who's the new nom de jour touted by the broadsheets, Lady Gaga is it? - then it seems a shame that such a genuinely talented artist as JST gets relatively overlooked. I'm afraid that the declaration on the back of the album "File under blues" may be partly responsible for this, but in the end I admire this integrity and can only wish the young lady (don't mean to be patronising by the way) every success. She has a LONG career ahead of her
